Oh boy that is a big Germany
level 2
Also Italy was fat in the 18th century, apparently.

i wonder where austria is. Maybe I should learn the history further back than just to the 19th century...

That is a really good map for someone who could not use a satelite image!
I wonder which of the inaccuracies are caused by e.g. rising sea level or erosion, rather than by bad measurements. For instance, Italy and Greece are both a bit off (as is Crimea), could this be partially explained by a different sea level?
level 2
I imagine it would be more a combination of some coastlines are lesser explored and in the case of Greece and Italy they are quite complex.

I wonder why old maps tend to refer to the Ottoman Empire as just "Turkey".
level 2
It's always been referred to as Turkey in Poland back in the day as far as I know. What's the problem with calling Turkey Turkey?
level 1
Courious that it is called "The German Sea".
Both in German and English its called Nordsee/North Sea nowadays which only seems to be the norhern part on this map. Seems like the names have shifted at some point in history.
level 2
It's German Sea up until WW1. Just like House Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha suddenly became House Windsor.
